A 12-month staff works 2080 hours in one year. How about 9-, 10-, or 11- month staff?
If the staff has an 11-month appointment, the employee will work 11 consecutive months. This amounts to 24 pay periods, 1920 hours, if full time. You will also have one month of consecutive days off. That's two pay periods.
If the staff member has a 10-month appointment, the employee will work ten successive months, which is 22 pay periods and 1760 hours, if full time. They will also have two 2 consecutive months off, which is four pay periods.
If the staff has a 9-month appointment, the employee will work nine consecutive months, which is 19 pay periods, 1520 hours, if full time. And they will have three 3 consecutive months off, which is seven pay periods.
A reporter contacted me requesting information or an interview. What should I do?
Students, faculty, and staff have a great deal of expertise and insight to share with members of the media. However, before responding to a media representative, members of the campus community should contact University Communications. University Communications is the source for the media regarding any official information about the University.
A student in my class has missed most of the classes. Should the student still be getting notes?
Students with disabilities must attend classes in order to receive assistance from Note Taking Services. Their accommodation does not excuse their absences.
A student using Note-Taking Services approached me with concerns about the quality of the notes received. What should we do?
If there is any dissatisfaction with the quality of service, professionalism, or competence of the Note Taker, the student should contact the Note-Taking Services Coordinator.

Advice for interviewees
An internship or job interview is a two-way street. The job of the interviewer is to determine whether or not you have the skills and attitude that make you the best fit for the position.
You also have to determine whether the company and the position is a good fit for you. The best way to do this is by asking the interviewer questions during the interview.
Usually, the interviewer will ask, "Do you have any questions for me?" Your response should always be, "yes." Saying no or having no questions prepared tells the employer that you might not be motivated to work or that you do not put in effort to be prepared, which can reflect on the effort you put put into the job.
Employers make judgments about you based on the questions you ask. Make sure that you ask good questions.
- Do your research on the company and ask questions related to the company and your position
- Don't ask about salary and benefits during your initial interview
- Don't ask general, bland questions. Know the industry and lexicon
- Ask open ended questions and not questions that can be answered with a "yes" or "no"
Am I allowed to bring my car?
Am I allowed to bring my car?
Yes. Cars are allowed on campus as long as they are registered with the Department of Public Safety (DPS), where you will be issued a parking permit. You must provide proof of insurance. Please contact us or visit Campus Parking for more information.
Am I allowed to consume alcohol in the hallways?
No opened bottles or cans of alcoholic beverages are allowed in public areas. This includes the hallways and lobbies in the residence halls. Consult Gallaudet University's alcohol and other drug policies for more information.
Am I entitled to reinstatement while taking paid family leave?
The Paid Leave Act provides protection from retaliation. Reinstatement protections are provided under the Family and Medical Leave Act or the DC Family and Medical Leave Act when applicable.
